For most of the past week, I've been struggling to think of an act of kindness to perform, but when I got the news that my roommate Eric hadn't gotten the summer internship he had been hoping for, I thought I should do something to brighten his day. As small and strange as it was, I decided to make him a cup of hot chocolate. It was certainly unexpected, and he thought it a little strange, but I could tell it brightened his day! Despite living in a house with a lot of friends, I don't feel like we all make much of an effort to outwardly show that we care. If one of us makes a conscious effort to make everyone else's day just a little bit better, that culture could spread and really have a larger impact than you'd initially expect.

Greg, that was such a sweet and unique act of kindness!! I'm sure you made him smile or laugh, making him feel at least a little better, and that means so much to someone after having a rough day. I agree that with our own busy lives, it's sometimes hard to make an effort to make others' feel better, but the rarity almost makes it mean that much more.
ReplyDeleteIt always feels good to know that someone’s day was made better because of you. Although as a guy I totally understand his response of being a little strange. And I think you're right if we could as a society come together and actively care for one another the world would be a better pace

ReplyDeleteThat is my same thought. Like I said it is the thought that counts. I didn't get my summer internship I was hoping for either and I would of loved a cup! Your random act, even though it was simple like mine, was probably appreciated because your friend saw how you showed friendliness and took time away from your day to try and comfort him when he was feeling down.
ReplyDeleteGreg,
ReplyDeleteI like your little act of kindness. I think even though it was something small, it still made your roommates day. I can see that you expressed your gratitude toward him since he did not get the internship. Showing that you cared probably made him feel happy. It is tough at times to brighten someone’s day, but I bet this helped him forget about the event earlier that occurred.
