Assignment 1 - Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is Greg Fette and I'm a 3rd year Industrial and Systems Engineering major. I was born in Cincinnati and attended St. Xavier high school before deciding attend school 2 hours up 71 at Ohio State. I consider myself to be a fairly career oriented student with a passion for engineering and problem solving. Despite being relatively un-involved during my first 2 years at OSU, I'm attempting to try new things such as joining the Project Nicaragua student organization, and recently continuing my old rowing career by joining the OSU Crew club. I have always had a passion for the outdoors, I lovehiking and backpacking, despite not being able to do it as much as I'd like as a full time student.

Leadership has always been something I'd like to have more experience with. But while direct nominal experience has been lacking, there have been many instances where I've been required to take up the reigns. Back in senior year of high school, I found myself having help out new members in a variety of programs, by virtue of being an older member. In marching band I helped instruct new members how to march, and made sure to set an example to ensure the culture was maintained for the next generation. Similarly with rowing, I found myself teaching both technique and helping to instill a good work ethic. Other examples of leadership lie in group projects such as our engineering robotics project freshman year. In the work world, being an intern for only a 3 month period doesn't lend itself much to leadership, but I still found myself in this type of role during projects such as explaining a new method to sales associates at Fidelity, or helping a contractor create training materials at GE. In this course I hope to learn more about how I can be a better leader in the future
